CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Doctor Kenning Flugslys  (Doctor Flug)
Age: 27
Canon: Villainous/Villanos
Canon Point: After the Halloween Specials (up to current release)
Character Information: To understand who Flug is as a character, it is first important to understand the canon he comes from. Villainous, as a series, is a comedic subversion to the Superhero genre, meaning we root for the bad guys. Usually to do a story of this nature, the evil protagonists have to be the underdog in some fashion, but Black Hat, Flug's boss and leader of the Organization, is actually so successful at being evil he has become bored and decided to make a business out of it. Like an evil Acme corp, Black Hat Organization (BHO) sell weapons to villains of all various Universes and canons-- that's right, Villainous is built to be a crossover! Since the show's conflict then comes from not defeating opponents but rather just profiting off the situation, reality is stretched for humor's sake and the focus is much more about the hijinks that ensue.

As the BHO Scientist, it is Flug who is responsible for inventing the plethora of products requested; no matter how impossible. A remote that brings evil thoughts to life? No problem. A device that freezes and rewinds reality so you can steal that plane you really wanted? Sure thing! An entire army of robots to help you defeat the one pesky samurai in your Universe? Just another extra thicc Tuesday. All in the same week? You got it, Sir. As a cartoon, if it is relevant to the situation, Flug has been shown to be capable of making it (Though naturally I'll be nerfing/downplaying this for rp) it nevertheless makes any of the Scientist's boasts from life before Ryslig as credible as they are outlandish.

In a way, Villainous is also like three shows in one: What we see BHO 'air' in their marketing ads and Orientation videos, the hidden dark stories we find off screen (through a special website that allows us to upload codes hidden in the show, much like Gravity Falls) and the inbetween fan service moments of the comics and shorts. Nevertheless all three are connected and just as valid as the first. An upcoming ‘pilot’ episode has kicked off a storyline all material has been leading up to, giving us a more episodic setup but after a full playlist of 12 eleven-minute review-show style webisodes and 6 one-minute shorts along with countless easter eggs of backstory the characters are more than currently established. (Nevertheless, I entirely defer to mod judgement if this violates the new canon rule. Please let me know if this causes an issue. I’m happy to comply with whatever you feel is fair.)

The doctor has not led a very charming life. While much of what we know has been provided through Easter eggs, interviews and answers from the show's creator, they paint a vivid, albeit not necessarily chronological, picture.

For reasons not yet known, Doctor Flug aspired to rise in villainy early on. Two screen-caps from separate video segments show him in the standard uniform of Black Hat's Academy, a school for training young villains, and he proudly displays his diploma, which he earned at said school, for Mastering Mad Science in his work-space. Despite his brilliance, it seems as though Flug was not well liked among his peers, as every instance we see his fellow students, they are often glaring at or flat out bullying him. True to his face-hiding visual gag, Flug hides beneath a green recycle bucket in every snapshot, often littered with trash and looking vaguely uncomfortable, suggesting part of his odd face-hiding neurosis may have begun at this stage of his life.

Mad Science hadn't been Flug's only calling. Whether before or after his school days, Flug had time to also earn his Commercial and Private Pilot's license, both of which were revoked when he was apprehended long enough to have a mug shot taken. Despite this fact, he continues to be obsessed with planes and plane related objects, unable to help himself from shrinking real ones down to add to his collection; even his alias “Dr. Flug Slys” intentionally translates to Dr. “Plane Crash”. Among these aviation-related misdemeanors, a rap sheet recently revealed Doctor Flug is currently accountable for 82,062 accounts of criminal activity. While he is listed as already being employed under Black Hat in the documentation, it is certain a number of these charges were surely committed on his own time before joining the Corporation and you can damn well bet he was a willing accomplice in nearly every one after.

As Black Hat's servant, Flug also has taken on a myriad of roles throughout the series. After the fourth Orientation Video, Flug began hosting the video segments, in the fifth he reminisced over his work as a camp counselor and in the most recent video "Lost Tales of the Future" Flug was briefly shown catering one of Black Hat's soiree as a waiter.

At the end of the day, Flug merely is his all-encompassing occupation. Flug always will be Black Hat's right hand man and the rest is simple data. Flug himself likely only views the latter half of his life after joining Black Hat to be the worthwhile part, therefore, it is only fitting that the rest remain as hidden as the face he tries to bury behind that paper mask.

Personality: Timid and frail, spineless and awkward, Doctor Flug is probably the last person any Evil Overlord would trust to keep by their side... And yet above all others, Black Hat, the ultimate Supervillain, chose him. This would be puzzling at face value. Doctor Flug is very unconventional for a villain. He has no superpowers to speak of, no muscle to compensate, he isn’t particularly good looking (or so most would assume of a man who refuses to show his face) and lacks charisma to boot—but what Flug does have he has in spades, and that is dedication.

Yes, dedication may not sound like much, but when your boss can destroy an entire Galaxy with the snap of his fingers on a whim, the bells and whistles don’t tend to matter as much. Whether it’s due to Black Hat’s say so or Flug’s own work ethic being that punishing, the inventor stops for nothing when it comes to his craft. Flug is studious to an extreme degree. It shouldn’t be humanly possible how he manages his workload but his continued employment (and existence) at Black Hat Organization ensures that he does. The doctor isn’t just the best employee at Black Hat Organization, aside from the resident assassin, he is the ONLY employee, implying that out of the thousands of customers who buy their products, Flug alone is responsible for 90% of their creation. Such inhuman levels of productivity are no doubt unhealthy and the doctor looks quite exhausted half the time as a result.

Flug lives for Black Hat's approval, any shred of praise the Doctor can glean from the unholy elder God is worth putting his life at risk a thousand times over. While we have yet to learn why Flug follows Black Hat so dutifully, one need only look over the ego-stroking the doctor goes through every time he writes an introduction for himself on camera for a clue. Quite simply, Black Hat IS the BEST and ever the perfectionist, Flug won’t settle anything less. Like any villain he has his delusions of grandeur, occasionally fantasizing about himself being an all-powerful figure in charge, but Flug has what most villains lack—common sense. Deep down, Flug knows there is no beating Black Hat and he isn’t about to try. If Flug can’t be the best, he at least wants to stand at the top alongside the one who is. As Black Hat’s only real employee, Flug has a front row seat to being a part of his boss and mentor’s success, it’s just too bad working under an all-powerful, immortal being entails that Flug will die long before any passing of a torch will ever be possible.

Ceaseless productivity and common sense alone make for a good employee but what is bafflingly Flug’s strongest suit is how well he plays the victim. Cowering in fear and looking as unintimidating as possible are attributes no villain worth their salt would be caught alive displaying and yet for Flug it works. Why should he hold back his terror when villains loved to feel superior? If he cowers in their presence and listens to their boasts, does it not, in turn make them more likely to keep him alive? Thinking outside the box is one of the outlooks Flug shares with his esteemed employer; what should be a despicable traits of a weakling Flug actually turned around to use to his advantage. Perhaps it is this combination of factors that appeals to Black Hat’s reasoning for keeping the tiny mortal around—that and the added joy of having a human to terrorize daily in the comfort of his home.

Flug isn’t entirely unsuited to be a villain, of course. He wouldn’t be so skilled in making devices of mass destruction if he didn’t want to. No doubt his job is in high demand, no matter how unforgivingly brutal it comes across. Flug loves showing off how brilliant he can be, he takes pride in his intellect, displaying his multitude of PHDs for clients to see. As an evil genius he has no qualms about going against standard morals for the sake of discovery; Flug even relished the chance to vivisect a client who disappointed the Organization despite having teared up about their supposed back story on camera not minutes prior; in the KND crossover orientation video, we also watch him cheerfully sick a killer robot on the Delightful Children from Down the Lane for their failure, who he had originally been tasked with simply delivering a cake to.

Sadistic streaks aside, Doctor Flug’s softer side is not an act. He genuinely enjoys pancakes, painting model planes and hugs from sentient teddy bears as much as the next person. Never is this fondness made more prominent, than any screen-time Flug shares with his creation 5.0.5. 5.0.5. had originally been invented for the purpose of becoming a lethal killing machine, but for whatever reason, the experiment failed spectacularly, instead resulting in a cuddly, lovable, bear-like creature. If Flug's interactions with 5.0.5. are anything to go by, he has long gotten over that disappointment. Not only does he coddle the genetically created cub by buying him souvenirs and comforting him when they watch scary movies, as seen in the comics, he also degraded himself to the point of playing with sock puppets together as seen in 'lost cases of riboflavin' and again went as far as to baby-talk his creation immediately after giving a lesson about how villains should never show affection in 'Lost cases of Townsville'. Flug's bond with 5.0.5. shows us that despite his aspirations for evil, Flug isn't about to change his own affinities and is perfectly capable of kindness should he wish to give it; it's just unfortunate for the rest of the Universe that humanity as a whole isn't often included.

All in all, Doctor Flug is truly the epitome of personality contradicting morality. His constantly anxious demeanor and stuttering speech would lead anyone to believe he is more of a hostage than someone who fought tooth and nail to get their job, but the fact of the matter is Flug is quite proud of his work and feels a sense of fulfillment in creating weapons and devices for villainy.

In game developments: Ultimately the time spent in Ryslig has been good for Flug. In spite of the trauma and hard times he has faced, he has succeeded in feeling more like the feared and powerful being he has always wanted to be. Earning Black Hat's favor beyond being his tool has done wonders for Flug's confidence and at times he has tried to even get rid of his more empathetic traits to be a better villain.
These attempts not only failed but were met with a surprising amount of derision by his boss who forbid him from continuing. It seems no matter how monstrous Flug becomes he'll never loose the skittish, awkward, kinder aspects of himself he used to dismiss as personal faults-- Black Hat will not allow that.

5-10 Key Character Traits: hardworking, mildly sadistic, prideful (of genius), neglectful (of health), perpetually anxious, ambitious, doting, morally contradictory, awkward, unconventional

Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, EITHER, or opt for 100% RANDOMIZATION? Fits, if possible!

Opt-Outs: Minotaur, Naga, Slime, Kelpie, Merperson, Troll

Flug has previously been sorted as an arachne! I'd like to keep that.
